It All Starts On April 17, 1837:
Born in Connecticut to a distinguished New England family, grew up like many future robber barons (except Andrew Carnegie): in East Coast wealth and glamour. From an early age, he knew what his future career would be - his father had already made the decision that Morgan would take over his business when he came of age.
That would not be much of an issue for Morgan, who inherited the company with ease in 1871 and quickly made J.P. Morgan & Co. one of the largest and most important financial firms in New York City. He married his first wife Amelia Sturges, daughter of a wealthy New York businessman, in 1861. She died shortly after. He then married his second wife Frances Louisa Tracy in 1865, and had 4 children with her. |
"Well, I don't know as I want a lawyer to tell me what I cannot do. I hire him to tell how to do what I want to do."
